Cetearyl Alcohol

Cetearyl alcohol is a white granular or flaky solid with a special smell. It is insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether, chloroform and other organic solvents, and has the properties of alcohols. Cetearyl alcohol can be produced by reduction of suitable fatty acids of plant or animal origin. Cetearyl alcohol can also be produced directly from hydrocarbons. Cetearyl alcohol sold on the market mainly has three ratios: C16:C18=7:3, C16:C18=3:7 and C16:C18=5:5. Among them, C16:C18=3:7 is the most widely used.

Application

Personal care: Cetearyl alcohol is commonly used in facial creams, lotions and shampoos, and in the cosmetics industry as an emulsifier and stabilizer to prevent product separation.

Medicine: Cetearyl alcohol can be directly used in W/O emulsifier paste and ointment base. It is generally considered a non-irritating ingredient, although there is a small risk of an allergic reaction in people with allergic contact dermatitis.

Industry: In addition to being used as a defoaming agent, soil and water moisturizer, and coupler, Cetearyl alcohol can also be used as a raw material for the production of alcohols, amides, and sulfonated products for detergent products.
